12 kg Fruit Crate Mold

12 kg Fruit Crate Mold

A cold-storage crate for apples, oranges and pomegranates — strong and stable in tall stacks

Injection mold for 12 kg fruit crates for packing apples, oranges and pomegranates and for cold storage: a strong crate with stable stacking. Test-run on an injection machine before delivery.

About this mold

The 12 kg crate is one of the main cold-storage sizes. Apples, oranges, tangerines and pomegranates stay in these crates for months, in tall stacks in cold rooms — so the crate must not bulge under the weight of the crates above, must not turn brittle in the cold, and must let air flow freely between the fruit.

When designing the 12 kg mold, the floor thickness, corner ribs and rim profile are set so the crates lock firmly onto each other. For cold storage we recommend copolymer polypropylene, which has better impact strength at low temperatures.

The test video of a 12 kg crate mold made in our workshop is further down this page. If you need a larger crate, see the 14 kg crate mold.

Key features

Strength in stacks

A reinforced floor and corners carry the load of the crates above instead of passing it to the fruit.

Cold-room ventilation

Openings in the floor and walls let cold air circulate between the fruit.

Crates that lock together

The rim and base are designed together so a stack of crates does not slide when moved with a forklift.

Reliable handles

Handles are designed for carrying a full crate: comfortable for workers and strong under load.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 12 kg and a 14 kg crate?
Kilogram names for crates are approximate and differ between producers; usually the difference is in height and inner volume. Give us your sample or dimensions and the mold is built for exactly that capacity.
What material is best for cold storage?
Copolymer polypropylene has better impact strength in the cold than standard polypropylene. Using a lot of low-quality recycled material makes crates brittle in the cold.
How much does a 12 kg crate mold cost?
It depends on the dimensions, the steel and the ejection system; send a photo or the dimensions of your crate for an accurate estimate.
